THE STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT / THE UNIVERSITY OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK / ALBANY, NY 12234 Office of P-20 Education Policy |
Sponsor training is mandatory for all experienced and potential new Summer Food Service Program sponsors. The New York State Education Department (SED) will conduct seven training workshops and three webinars in March, April and May. SED will offer separate training webinars for experienced sponsors and potential sponsors. Webinar attendance fulfills the mandatory training requirement. All training locations and webinar dates are listed on page three.
Training workshops and the webinars will provide a comprehensive overview of program administration and operations as well as recent changes that will take effect in 2019. Each training workshop is divided into breakout sessions that will provide participants with the regulatory requirements specific to how they plan to operate their program. Please refer to the daily training schedule and session descriptions by following the link below for more information. SED suggests more than one person from your organization attend training in order to obtain all relevant information from the breakout sessions. Please review the topics that will be provided at training and be sure that the appropriate people from your organization attend training. Additionally, you should review how you operate or plan to operate and choose the appropriate sessions to attend. Training summaries will be available on our web site. Food service management company representatives, nutrition advocates, Department of Health officials and other persons interested in learning about the program are encouraged to attend.
A live webinar designed specifically for experienced sponsoring organizations will be conducted on March 14th and covers new USDA memos. SED will review mapping tools to help facilitate effective outreach strategies for your program.
A two-part live webinar designed specifically for potential new SFSP sponsors will be conducted on March 15th and March 19th, attendance at both is required. The first part, conducted on March 15th will address basic administrative program requirements and the application process. The second part, conducted on March 19th will address operational requirements of the program.
Please register for training by March 8, 2019. Experienced sponsors with a Child Nutrition Management System password may register for training online by following the directions on page four. Otherwise, please complete and return page five, “Summer Food Service Program Sponsor Training Registration Form.”
The training session on April 9, 2019 at Beth Rachel High School focuses on sponsors that operate camp sites and intend to claim 3 meals in the SFSP. In an effort to provide additional guidance, SED will also provide a review of closed enrolled site information. All sponsors who operate camp sites are welcome to attend. The first session from 9:00am to 10:00am is for potential sponsors. The general session will begin at 10:15am and is for experienced and potential new sponsors. Please note that a camp and closed enrolled session will be part of the daily schedule at all other locations. If your organization operates open sites as well as other site types, it is in your best interest to attend one of the other training sessions throughout the state to gain information regarding the other site types.
